TRANSCRIPTION - $30/$35 PER HOUR WORKED
Our transcription rates are $30 per hour worked
on regular material and $35 per hour worked on legal
and medical material.
The number of hours required to do a job depends on the clarity of the material
and the amount of specialized terminology used.
We offer three quality levels of transcription.
Standard
Service - Two Pass
With our standard service, an hour's worth of
non-technical, non-medical audio takes about 6 - 7 hours of work time
to complete with a resulting charge of approximately
$180- $210. Technical or
medical material will result in a charge of approximately
$210-$245 per hour.
Broadcast-quality material takes less time to transcribe. Hard-to-hear material
and focus groups take longer to transcribe.
Our standard service includes our two-pass quality system where once
a transcriptionist has transcribed the material, a supervisor
or proofreader will listen to the audio again and correct any inaccuracies
and fill in any inaudibles the first transcriptionist missed.
Typically, our accuracy rate on
broadcast quality material is 99.6%, and 98.5%-99.5% on
average quality material. Turnaround
time is typically 1-2 business days for 1 hour of material
and within a week for larger projects.
Rough-Draft
Service - One Pass
For clients who need their transcripts quickly or do not need a high level
of accuracy, we offer a one-pass, unproofread rough-draft
service comparable to the quality that other companies
offer. This kind of transcription works best with broadcast-quality
audio where the transcript will be used for editing, for journalists
looking for specific quotes in a transcript, or where the clients are going
to proofread the material themselves. On such audio, our accuracy rate
for broadcast-quality material is usually 98%-99% and less for harder-to-hear audio.
At this level of service, an hour's worth of audio takes about 5
hours of time to complete with a resulting charge of approximately
$150for regular material and
$175 for
technical/medical. This
is also our fastest service, with most 1-hour transcripts returned the
same day/next day, if received before noon Eastern Time.
Custom Service - Hard-to-Hear Material
>
We also offer a custom service for hard-to-hear
audio where we will do 3rd, 4th and 5th passes on
transcripts to get as much as humanely possible. Quite often
we will use extreme digital processing, frequency equalization, volume compression and other methods
to transcribe wire-taps, hidden microphone and other recordings where the audio is particularly difficult to hear
or where a higher level of accuracy is needed.
The final cost depends on how long we
spend working on a project or what your budget is.
When ordering, please specify which level of service you want, otherwise,
we will provide quotes and service based on our standard two-pass service.
Also keep in mind, the above price ranges are only guidelines. We work to
order and we will put in as much time and effort you want us to, particularly
with hard-to-hear material and focus groups. We are only one of a few
transcription companies that will take on difficult and non-standard material
to transcribe. We will work for as long as your budget allows us to get the
best transcript possible.
When we receive audio material, we immediately check it for clarity and
transcription difficulty, and we provide you with an estimated price and
turnaround time before we start any job. We do our best to come in either
under our estimate or right on target.

next transcription job.
DIGITAL REMASTERING AND ENCODING
Fantastic Transcripts can digitize and encode your
audio or video into any number of formats to stream from Web
sites, broadcast over intranets, or play back from CDs, VCDs and CD-ROMs.
We convert audio and video into the three major formats, Real Media, Windows
Media and MPEG (MP3 for audio, MPEG-1 for video). The material we encode
includes conferences, speeches, investor calls, training tapes, radio shows
and more for such clients as The Independent Institute, Ropes & Gray
and more.
Our prices for digitizing and encoding are some of the lowest on the Web.
The cost for audio and video encoding is $75 per hour of
material. For audio, this price includes digitizing, editing, compressing
and encoding. For video, this price is for straight digitizing and encoding.
Video editing costs extra.
In addition, we can burn your audio to a music CD, which will play on any
CD player, and we can burn your video to a Video CD, which will play on any
computer with a CD drive and most DVD players being sold today. Feel free
to ask us for prices for your particular needs.
AUDIO RESTORATION AND FORENSIC
TRANSCRIPTION
A growing area for us is improving poorly recorded and hard-to-hear audio,
which we became expert at as part of our forensic transcription work. We
can digitally boost low volume recordings, eliminate electrical hums, reduce
hiss, equalize voices and reduce echoes and background noises.
We can deliver the restored audio on a cassette, on an audio CDs, or on a
CD-ROM as WAVs, MP3s, Real Audio or Windows Media files.
Please keep in mind that while not every tape can be saved, we might be able
to turn a flawed recording into something that is audible and usable, or
be able to extract a transcript from it.
Call or e-mail us for details. There is no charge for a tape we cannot improve.
DATA CONVERSION AND CONTENT REPURPOSING
Fantastic Transcripts has gained a reputation for being able to convert data
from one format to another. Whether it's audio into text, text into databases,
analog to digital and back again to analog, we are ready to discuss your
data conversion needs.
Some of the conversions we've done recently include repurposing interactive
CD-ROMs into Websites, transcribing interviews directly into databases, and
archiving teleconference calls onto audio CDs. We have also done captioning
work for the deaf and have worked to redesign Websites to comply with the
American with Disabilities
Act.
Since we're willing to consider whatever conversion process you may have,
please feel free to call Susan or Jamie at (617) 451-1807 for further information
or a price quote.
HIGH SPEED TAPE DUPLICATION
If you need cassette copies of your voice tape, we can duplicate them with
our high-speed tape duplicator. A copy of a tape can be made within six minutes.
Copies are slightly softer than their originals, so we recommend only good
quality tapes be duplicated in this fashion. Copies are made in mono sound,
so we do not recommend copying music tapes. The price is $10 per cassette
copy with volume discounts available. Call Susan, Jamie or Jean at (617)
451-1807 for further information or a price quote.
